We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to oversee and manage all legal and compliance matters related to construction projects across the company operations. This sole Legal Counsel will ensure that all activities comply with UK laws and regulations, provide strategic legal advice, manage risks, and support the project team and senior management in delivering successful construction initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all construction projects, contracts, and related activities comply with UK construction laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate construction-related contracts, ensuring legal sufficiency and alignment with project objectives.
  • Provide clear, pragmatic, and timely legal advice to project teams, senior management, and stakeholders on construction law matters, including procurement, planning permissions, and health and safety regulations.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with construction projects, advising on strategies to minimize disputes and ensure compliance.
  • Manage and resolve construction-related disputes, including adjudication, arbitration, mediation, and litigation, liaising with external counsel as needed.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with construction law and best practices across all projects.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for legal matters with contractors, subcontractors, regulatory bodies, and government authorities.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified UK lawyers with 7+ years’ PQE; 3 years specializing in Construction Law.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK construction/ ocean law (UNCLOS).
  • Familiarity with British Overseas Territories is highly desirable.
  • Experience advising on construction projects (including the islands), including infrastructure, commercial, or residential developments.
  • Strong understanding of UK health and safety regulations and planning laws.
  • Proven ability to handle construction disputes through adjudication, arbitration, or litigation.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers.
  • Experience with public sector or large-scale private construction projects is highly desirable.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to frequent travels.
