Our client is a global organisation providing a range of engineering, construction and maintenance services. Due to their business growth in APAC, we are partnering with them to look for an experienced lawyer to join their expanding legal team. 
This is a true in-house generalist role, covering a wide range of legal and commercial issues related to the Company operations and their subsidiary entities based in Singapore and across APAC.


Key purpose
  • To provide comprehensive in-house legal support within their APAC (Asia Pacific) Head Office, working as part of a small, collaborative international team. This role offers the opportunity to handle a wide variety of legal matters across multiple companies in Singapore and the broader APAC region, contributing to diverse legal initiatives and fostering a strong, inclusive team culture.
Reporting
  • Reporting to the CFO of the Company Regional APAC office, based in Singapore.
  • Functional reporting to Head of Legal Australia & New Zealand
  • Collaborative work with the APAC Legal Team, based in Brisbane, Australia.
  • Geographical area covered: Singapore /Malaysia (APAC studies might be required)
  • Number of staff supervised: None
Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing and negotiating contracts, particularly for the purposes of tender submissions/ upcoming projects and working closely with key operational teams for this purpose. These activities will be performed for their Singapore business and as required, across the APAC region
  • Providing legal support to the internal stakeholders, including contract management advice and support during the construction / installation phases
  • Preparing, reviewing and amending correspondence
  • Assisting with:
    • policy review and amendment
    • insurance - including coverage advice and claims
    • employment – including drafting of/ reviewing employment contracts, assisting to conduct investigations and preparing follow up reports, providing advice on disciplinary matters
    • corporate – assisting with company secretarial duties, maintaining internal records and associated tasks
    • M&A – assisting with acquisitions, including due diligence enquiries, drafting of documents
    • safety – interpreting legislation and providing advice, providing guidance on investigations and interactions with regulators, generally supporting the safety teams from a legal perspective where needed
    • compliance – assisting the company and its related entities to adhere to its internal compliance requirements and those of the Group. This support will be required for subsidiary entities in Singapore specifically and also more broadly as needed
    • content Development – assisting to develop legal and/or compliance related content for circulation across the APAC region on topics relevant to our business
    • training – assisting in the coordination and delivery of key legal and compliance trainings in Singapore and across APAC
  • and other related matters, as required.
Knowledge and experience:
  • Admitted to practice and/ or completed all necessary qualifications to engage in the practice of law, with a Bachelor of Laws from a Singaporean University
  • Have law firm or in house experience, in the construction, commercial, or corporate space
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, compliance, and regulatory frameworks
  • Some knowledge and practice in an area of law relevant to the business would be helpful – eg.  Construction, Workplace relations, Health & Safety, Mergers & Acquisitions, insurance law, property law.

  • A problem-solving approach with the ability to work effectively with diverse internal stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with the willingness to learn and use various internal programs, tools and platforms
  • Bring a proactive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to service and a desire to build good relationships within our business
  • A keen desire to learn about the Group, the businesses conducted by their various subsidiary entities, their industry in general, the way we do their work and how a broad range of legal services are provided in that context
  • An ability to work well as part of an international team and autonomously
