We are seeking an experienced Global Environmental Legal Counsel to oversee international environmental compliance across all regions where the company operates. This role ensures that the organization meets legal environmental compliance standards in multiple jurisdictions, provides strategic legal counsel on environmental laws, manages environmental compliance frameworks and reporting, and collaborates cross-functionally to gather data required to meet reporting requirements and to offer solutions on how to organize data to streamline reporting. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of international environmental laws, a strong business acumen, and the ability to navigate complex environmental laws across diverse legal systems.

Location: near any of Diebold Nixdorf offices in Warsaw, Wrocław, Katowice or Szczecin to be able to work circa 2 days per week in the office + ability to travel 20% time internationally 



Responsibilities
  • Advise on global environmental laws and regulations, including EU REACH, RoHS, WEEE, EPR schemes, Canada CEPA, and international treaties (e.g., Basel Convention, Paris Agreement).
  • Develop and manage comprehensive global environmental compliance programs and risk management strategies.
  • Monitor and interpret international environmental regulatory developments, assessing their impact on operations and advising accordingly.
  • Lead internal audits, risk assessments, and investigations related to international environmental compliance.
  • Oversee international environmental permitting, emissions tracking, and product stewardship reporting requirements (including packaging and battery reporting).
  • Coordinate with regional legal teams, governmental affairs, and external counsel to ensure consistency and alignment in environmental compliance strategies.
  • Represent the company in interactions with foreign and domestic environmental regulators, including enforcement proceedings and regulatory inspections.
  • Partner with sustainability, supply chain, and operations teams to integrate legal compliance with environmental objectives including coordinating communications with suppliers regarding emissions data and other information to assist with reporting obligations.
  • Provide global training and guidance on environmental regulations and standards.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in law or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
  • Fully completed legal training in Poland (so-called application) and passed legal advisor exam.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction; additional jurisdictions are preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of experience practicing environmental law, with at least 3 years in a global or multinational context.
  • Proven expertise in international environmental legal frameworks and regulatory regimes.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience with circular economy regulations and climate-related financial disclosures.
  • Experience with ESG frameworks (e.g., CSRD, CSDDD, TCFD, GRI) and sustainability law.
  • One or more additional languages (especially Spanish or German)
  • Experience with legal technology tools and global compliance management systems.
